Joel is a Licensed Professional Counselor in Puerto Rico since 2014. He is a Certified EMDR therapist and EMDR Consultant in Training. Joel is a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist Candidate and a Certified Master Addiction Counselor (NAADAC). His mission is to help trauma survivors and their families through individual and group therapy in collaboration with support groups.

In 2016, Joel collaborated with Be The Change, offering pro bono EMDR therapy to Puerto Rican survivors of Hurricane Maria and earthquakes. He is the co-founder of “Greater San Juan,” the first EMDR Trauma Recovery Network (HAP) in Puerto Rico.

Joel created the workshop, "If we don’t talk about sex to our children, google will." In this workshop, he trains parents to prevent their children from being exposed to porn. Along with his wife, he hosts the radio show Hablemos de Sexo (Let's Talk about Sex) at 97.7fm. On the show, they discuss sex addiction and trauma recovery for addicts and their families.
